What is a PhD?

WHAT IS THE DURATION OF A PhD IN BELARUS?

In Belarus, the duration of a PhD is normally 3–4 years, but it may be extended to one more year. So sometimes it takes four years to complete the PhD.

Medium of Instructions

In Belarus, the medium of instruction for PhD programs is Russian, so for the first year, foreign students study at a preparatory faculty for Russian, and after completion of their preparatory course, they start their research work on the PhD program.

ADMISSION IN BELARUS FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS IN PhD

According to the admissions process, all foreign applicants scan their secondary school certificate, bachelor’s degree, and master’s degree with an international passport copy in the email of the admissions office.

Upon completion of the assessment of their documents, an email is sent to all eligible international applicants, and then they transfer their admission fee and scan the receipt to the admissions office for records.

PhD applicants may apply and join throughout the year for their preparatory and PhD programs.

Once the admissions office receives the admission fee, the documents of the international applicants are forwarded to the migration department for processing of an official study invitation. This processing for an official study invitation takes two weeks, and an official study invitation is first scanned and then sent to the international applicant by courier.

Other applicants who are not found eligible on the grounds of missing documents are also sent an email by the admissions office and are asked to provide more supportive documents for their admission.

BELARUS STUDENT VISA PROCESS FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS

Most foreign students depart with an official study invitation and OK TO BOARD letter, and the visa is stamped at Minsk International Airport.

Some countries like Nigeria, India, Pakistan, Kenya, South Africa, and Egypt have Belarusian embassies in their countries, so nationals of these countries first obtain visas from the Belarusian embassies and then depart, but these nationals may also obtain visas on arrival.

We strongly advise all foreign students to scan their air ticket three days before departure, as admissions staff have to prepare their documents for reception at Minsk International Airport.
